Week 1 Recap

Hey FOCKEY FANS! This week opened up play for our Winter High School League. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start. Being short an official, circles about a third the regulation size and cones for sidelines excluded, we still managed to have a great first day with lots of great play.

Warde-1 Ludlowe-0

We started off with a huge crosstown rivalry with Farfield Ludlowe and Warde High School going head to head. Warde was able to score early in the first half with a goal by Lily C. and assist by Jennifer P. Both teams fought hard throughout the second half, each creating multiple scoring opportunities but neither team was able able to finish. The first and only goal for Warde would result in a 1-0 victory for the Mustangs.

Norwalk-8 St joes-2

A very strong and determined Norwalk team faced off against a mixed team comprised mostly of St Joe’s players. Hayley Yule was able to score twice for St. Joe’s but it wouldn’t be enough to counter the very balanced scoring by the relentless Norwalk attack. Norwalk ended the first day of play with an 8-2 win.

LH-7 Trumbull-2

Trumbull was off to a great start in the opening minutes of the game going up 1-0 against a veteran Lauralton team but unfortunately they wouldn’t be able hold on to their lead as Lauralton’s experience and composure led them to a 5-1 lead at halftime. Trumbull battled back in the second half but it wouldn’t be enough to rectify the damage done by LH in the first half. Lauralton held scored twice more ending the game with a 7-2 victory over Trumbull.

Crusaders 6 Warde 3

A very tired Warde team rallied to play the second game of the day in their double header against the Crusaders. They must have had a “doozy” of a pep talk in the stands because they came out fired up and the first half was a back and forth battle that resulted in a 3-3 halftime tie. However after playing for an hour and a half straight the wear finally began to show in the Warde squad as they simply ran out of gas in the second half creating an opportunity for the Crusaders to come back and score another 3 goals. The final score gave the Crusaders a 6-3 win.
