Week 2 Tournament Recap

Norwalk v. Warde

Norwalk came out strong against Warde in the first half, but Warde held their own battling back and forth down the field. Both teams scored quickly in the first 10 minutes. As the first half wound down though Norwalk found themselves ahead 3-1. The second half Warde stepped up and challenged Norwalk by denying them 3 opportunities to score off corner shots. It wasn’t going to be enough though and Norwalk soon extended their lead to make the score 5-1. Warde answered back with a goal by Allison M. As the minutes counted down however it would be Norwalk with a 6-2 victory.

Ludlowe v. St. Joe’s

The Ludlowe team was definitely ready to play this Sunday with a very early goal to start the first half. However, St. Joe’s lack of a goalie did not deter them from answering right back to tie up the game right away. The first half continued this way with both teams battling for position and shots on goal. The first half ended with a 2-1 score Ludlowe. St. Joe’s came out strong in the second half but it wasn’t until there was only 10 minutes left on the clock until they would close the gap giving Ludlow only a one point advantage. With the score now 3-2 and less than 3 minutes left on the clock Ludlow scored off of a corner shot giving them a 4-2 adavatange. St. Joe’s was finished though and with only seconds to spare they were able to score one last goal making the final score 4-3.

LH v. Crusaders

It was a battle for team pride as the LH Crusaders took on the LH Crusaders in an epic battle of Dark v. Light. Even though Light was down a goalie this did not prevent Leah Coguillo scoring the first goal within the first minutes of the game. A quick answer back though by Dark brought the score quickly to a 1-1 tie. The Dark LH team didn’t hesitate to pull some spectacular fast breaks out and score to give them a 3-1 lead. Kylie wasn’t phased as she got off a shot for the white to make the score 3-2. This was quickly followed by a corner goal by Maddie and another goal by Kylie. The White Crusader team dominated the first half by ending with a 5-7 lead. The Dark team wasn’t ready to go home though and came out in the second half to take advantage of the White team’s lack of goalie. It was a battle in the mid field as both teams worked on passing patterns and transfers. It became a battle of the corners though as late in the second half the score was 9-10 White. Nikki made one last play sealing the victory for the white team with a spectacular shot from the corner. The score showed 11-9 White Crusaders.

Trumbull v. Ludlowe:

A tired but resilient Ludlowe team stepped out to face the fresh faces of Trumbull High. With fresh legs, Trumbull was able to score early in the first few minutes. Both teams fought for possession with both getting great chances to score on goal. It would be Trumbull though to score again for the second time in the first half. Ludlow was not about to let Trumbull go that easily. A spectacular goal by Michelle N. helped Ludlowe close in on Trumbull as the first half came to an end. The second half started with both teams ready to go but Trumbull continued to edge out Ludlow during the second half and at the end the Eagles were able to outscore Ludlowe 10-3.
